Why Just Take an Alaskan Yoga Retreat?
When You Can Take an Alaskan Yoga Adventure Tour!

Yoga retreats are all the rage these days, and yes, they can be great.
But do you really want to come all the way to glorious Alaska, and then just stay in one place the whole time?

Alaska is filled with adventure opportunities, huge landscapes, fascinating wildlife, and so much more!

When you join our small-group, 9-day, Alaska Wilderness Yoga Adventure, you can have the best of both worlds: A chance to take daily yoga classes with a great local instructor/guide, and great opportunities to get out there and see, and better yet: EXPERIENCE THE REAL ALASKA!

  • Small group trips with fantastic, remote wilderness destinations, high-end lodges, and daily yoga classes
  • Choose from an array of included and optional multi-sport adventure activities to experience and explore Alaska, from the tides to the tundra!
  • Abundant and rare wildlife and glacier-viewing opportunities
  • Included Alaska Railroad and Denali flight-seeing trips
  • Travel with both an experienced, knowledgeable guide, and a gifted yoga teacher
  • Less time on the road, more time in the back country!

YOGA: Alaskan Yogini/Guide extraordianire Leigh Lubin is a seasoned naturalist, an exceptional Alaskan guide, and an E-RYT 200 accredited yoga teacher. She designed this trip to offer the best possible opportunities to get out and explore the vastness of Alaska. Leigh has studied Iyengar, Anusara, Forrest, and PranaFlow yoga. She teaches all levels of private and group classes, and offers workshops in Alaska. Expect anything from form, to flow, to energy in her dynamic, enlightening, and anatomy-based classes. Leigh has a special gift for helping people access their subtle bodies and optimal alignment.

LOCALES: Alaska Wilderness Yoga Adventure takes you to some of the most beautiful places on earth, including a remote, waterfront, glacier-side lodge, deep in the heart of Kenai Fjords National Park (accessed by water taxi), a beautiful lakeside lodge near Turnagain Pass, Talkeetna, and Kantishna, a private in-holding deep in the very heart of Denali National Park (accessed one way by a scenic flight that also flies right up to Denali itself, at 20,320′ North America’s highest peak)!

ACCOMMODATIONS: Nights are spent in twin share rooms or cabins at lodges or hotels. Our lodges, cabins, and hotels are not extravagant (don’t expect televisions, baggage handling, or room service), but they are friendly, comfortable, scenically situated, and rich with Alaskan hospitality and character. You’re going to like them! Most feature private bathrooms and showers, although a few are more rustic, with clean, shared facilities. The lodges also offer opportunities to meet local people, thus offering a slice of local color, and some insight into what it’s like to live in the Great Land year-round.

The price is based on twin-share rooms. Solo lodge tour guests must pay a $1,088 single supplement, although we may be able to pair you with another same-sex single if you wish, thereby avoiding the supplement.

MEALS: All the delicious and inspiring meals are included (except for breakfast the first morning), Breakfasts are hot, multi-course meals, or, in some cases, ordered off a restaurant menu. Lunches are buffet picnics or packed meals that we carry on activities. Dinners are family style at our lodges or in local restaurants. Vegetarian, vegan, and most special diets can be accommodated with advance notice. Please list any dietary restrictions or preferences on your Tour Reservation Form.

TRANSPORT: On this trip we travel in a variety of conveyances, including a comfortable 15-passenger van, water taxi (through super scenic Kenai Fjords National Park), small plane (over Denali National Park, and right up to the mountain itself, weather permitting), and even the Alaskan Railroad!

AND THE GUIDE? This is a two-guide trip, with a second guide accompanying and assisting trip leader and yoga instructor, Leigh. Our guides are friendly, capable, and multi-talented men and women who are passionate about Alaska, and about being active in the outdoors. He or she will also take a personal interest in you, making sure you are enjoying yourself and your Alaska experience.

Your hard-working guides will organize and coordinate the daily schedule and activities, transport you, keep you informed, guide you on hikes and adventures, handle all the details and any unexpected problems that might arise, and, in a nutshell, do what it takes to make sure that the trip is successful. You can relax knowing you’ll be in good hands with Get Up and Go!

ABOUT THE INCLUDED AND OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES: In addition to the great daily yoga classes, this trip also includes some truly great sea kayaking, amidst the glaciers and ice bergs of Kenai Fjords National Park, bicycling in the very heart of Denali National Park, in view of 20,320′ Denali itself (the highest peak in North America), an incredible “flight-seeing” trip to the summit and over the national park (weather permitting), and a scenic wilderness trip on the Alaska Railroad from Denali back to Anchorage, as well as truly great hiking, and a variety of optional activities (available at additional cost).

Never tried some of these before? Don’t worry, no previous experience is necessary for any activity; they’re fully guided, easier, and safer than they might seem, and a tremendous amount of fun. A Get Up and Go! Tours trip can be the perfect opportunity to safely try these exciting and fast-growing adventure activities for yourself. All optional activities will be arranged by your guide, and are payable locally. Credit cards are accepted.

GET UP AND GO! HIKING: In addition to the included multi-sport and other activities, there are also great scheduled hikes throughout the trip. The hikes are of varying lengths and difficulty levels, but all have in common dramatic scenery and larger-than-life Alaskan beauty. Alaska hikes traverse a variety of terrains and ecosystems, from rolling tundra hills, to glacial gorges and moraines, to mountain ridges, to lush forests, to alpine meadows, and more. If there’s anything that characterizes Alaska hiking, it’s variety! Whether your goal is to climb every mountain in sight, simply to enjoy a more casual walk at your own pace, admiring the wildflowers, scenery, and wildlife, or something in between, you’ll find a hike to suit you. The scenery always looks better when you experience it on foot, and long after you’ve returned home, the thing that you’ll remember most about your Alaskan experience will be the beautiful hikes.

NATURAL HISTORY INFORMATION: All Get Up and Go! tours feature daily activity briefings and “set the scene” commentary from your guides on the human and natural history of places to be visited. This friendly, casually presented commentary helps to bring the people, places, land forms, flora and fauna alive for our clients, and is one of the things that really distinguishes our tours. If you’ve been fortunate to have knowledgeable guides in the past then you know how much this can add to your overall experience. It’s even part of our motto: “Get Up and Go! Tours: Active, Informative, Fun!”

WHAT’S THE RUSH? A big advantage of all Get Up and Go! tours is the leisurely pace of our itineraries. Rather than packing up and driving every day, with just a little time in the afternoons for hikes, our tours feature a majority of 2 and 3-night stops, giving us more time to enjoy the beautiful Alaskan country you came to see, more time to hike, and more free time to relax.

DAILY TOUR ITINERARY

DAY 1: FROM ANCHORAGE TO THE KENAI PENINSULA

We’ll meet in the morning at our Anchorage departure hotel, introduce ourselves, have a brief overview of the tour, and head south to the Kenai Peninsula. We will explore Turnagain Arm and get an introduction to the majestic glacially carved landscape of Southcentral Alaska. Next, a picnic lunch and 2-3 hour hike on the way to our quaint mountain accommodations. We’ll arrive energized from the fresh air, refresh, and enjoy our first optional yoga practice, followed by an Alaskan-style dinner, and time to explore and settle in.

DAY 2: KENAI PENINSULA TO KENAI FJORDS NATIONAL PARK

Enjoy a morning yoga option followed by a short drive to Seward, Alaska. Board a small private sightseeing boat for a four-hour tour of Kenai Fjords National Park, where you’ll gaze at amazing landscapes, scope for wildlife (humpback whales, orcas, stellar sea lions, harbor seals, puffins, murres), sit at the face of a tidewater glacier waiting for it to calve, and finally arrive at our remote lodge. You’ll have time to get oriented before you set out on an afternoon activity followed by hors d’oeuvres, dinner, and an evening program.

DAY 3: KENAI FJORDS NATIONAL PARK

Wake up with an optional yoga practice. Today we’ll spend the day deep in the heart of the park. Choose from half or full day excursions canoeing, kayaking, and hiking in the temperate rainforest, up close and personal with glaciers, glacial ice, sea otters, and curious harbor seals. Enjoy a spectacular meal and an evening program.

DAY 4: KENAI FJORDS NATIONAL PARK TO THE KENAI PENINSULA

Morning yoga option. Today we choose a half-day activity to explore the remote surroundings, enjoy a wonderful lunch, and head back to the Kenai Peninsula hoping to spy more marine wildlife on the two-hour journey back to civilization. You’ll have a few hours to explore Seward and enjoy a gourmet dinner. Then we’ll travel north to our accommodations in the mountains of the Kenai Peninsula.

DAY 5: KENAI PENINSULA TO TALKEETNA

After an optional yoga session, we’ll head north to Talkeetna. We will stop along the way for a picnic lunch and arrive in historic Talkeetna for afternoon activities. The convergence of three major rivers with Denali as the backdrop creates quite the landscape! Explore the town with a historic walking tour, gawk at the human wildlife, go for a hike or canoe ride, admire several artists’ work, relax, or choose from a variety of optional activities with additional fees: fishing, scenic rafting tours, dogsled demos, glacier dogsled tour, ziplining, or a jet boat tour. Enjoy a home-cooked meal and an optional quieting evening yoga practice.

DAY 6: TALKEETNA TO DENALI NATIONAL PARK

Morning yoga option followed by travel to the entrance of Denali National Park. Enjoy a hike, splurge at the National Geographic bookstore, or enjoy the visitor’s center before we jump on our bus to take us 97 miles back into the park to our remote lodging. Along the way, look for wildlife and choose what areas of the park you’d like to explore for the next few days.

DAY 7: DENALI NATIONAL PARK

Relaxed morning yoga session option followed by the opportunity to explore the Kantishna Valley by foot or bike or jump back on a park bus and explore the park vistas and wildlife.

DAY 8: DENALI NATIONAL PARK

An early morning yoga session sets you up to have a full day in the most spectacular region of the park. Usually a 3-4 hour bus ride away from the entrance, you’ll be able to explore from within the park’s heart. Set up a hike with rangers, explore on your own, or bike the Park.

DAY 9: DENALI NATIONAL PARK AND ALASKA RAILROAD BACK TO ANCHORAGE

Today we’ll get a real perspective of the vastness of Alaska as we enjoy an included flight-see to Denali Mountain (weather dependent) and a flight over the park back to the entrance. Once on the road system, you’ll take the historic railroad back to Anchorage.
